PCI Data Centre

100% Canadian, 100% Inuit Owned and Operated.

*The background is not a picture of the site.

Perfectly Nested in the Middle of Nowhere.

Most remote and isolated commercially available data centre facility in Canada.

You can only access that site by flying into Iqaluit. There is no road access to the mainland; Then it’s three kilometres out of town.

Being remote and far away is not enough.

The site property is fenced, and the front gate is locked; each building is also fenced within the property perimeter. The front gate, main building access doors, fuel tanks, and LAN Room are under AI-powered camera surveillance. Door sensors on the LAN Room and Genset service doors are paired with a camera snapshot.
FOB access solutions for the main building entrance and biometrics.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS

HEAT

Iqaluit is very dry, so humidity control is essential.

The LAN Room Humidity levels are maintained through a humidifier attached to the central ventilation system – clean water is supplied from the main water supply.

VENTILATION & COOLING

A dual automatic fail-over ventilation system. Blown air. This place rarely gets above 25° Celsius in the summer. We’ll be installing a cooling system in the summer of 2024 to tap into that “free cool” surrounding us.

It may sound funny in the data centre world, but it’s freezing here, and we need heaters. The primary heat source is a blown air system heated by a diesel furnace (2 Ventilation Units Main plus Backup). Industrial electric heaters in the LAN, Electrical, and Genset Room back this up.

HUMIDITY

POWER

The site was originally built by Telesat to host and operate an unmanned satellite relay service in the Canadian East Arctic for Iridium. Everything had to work perfectly with as little attention as possible. Therefore, it was paramount that the main power supply be filtered/cleaned and backed-up to remain operational without human intervention.

600 VOLTS POWER GENERATOR

GREEN ENERGY

Lots of sun in the summer and lots of wind in winter make this place a fantastic location for a clean energy supply for our power-hungry hosts.

Clean energy power generation options and design alternatives are being looked at for this site. We’ll update as the things progresses.
